Every Calgary Instagrammer worth their salt knows that the Stampede is the ultimate photo-op. Charge up your smartphone, hit the midway and get creating some shareworthy snaps of your Stampede experience with these four handy-dandy tips:
1. Selfies on the WestJet Skyride are key. With the city skyline behind you and the twinkling midway lights as your backdrop, capturing a selfie with your bestie on the Westjet Skyride is the ideal way to photograph the Stampede grounds at it’s best. This is probably the only place that a selfie-stick is totally kosher and will help you get the best shot. Alternatively, take a vertigo-inducing shot of your well-loved cowboy boots high above the crowds — just be careful not to drop your phone!
2. Carnival food is incredibly photogenic. Between the glossy red candy apples and the giant swaths of pink cotton candy, midway noshes just looks good. Sidle up to your favourite vendors with handfuls of carnival provisions in hand — the more the better — for the perfect shot of your food coma-inducing Stampede diet. Be the envy of all.
3. During Stampede, the campier your ‘grams are, the better. Pop over into the midway games area and prepare to have your luck tested while looking incredibly cute. Bonus points for looking like a champ when you snag that giant teddy bear!
4. And the money shot. Hike on up to Scotsman’s Hill for an incredible view of the fireworks show! This is a great time to utilize Instagram’s Boomerang app for some awe-inspiring GIFs of the glowing fairground and sparkling sky.
